Dark or Light Mode: Choosing Readable Website UI

NP NexPixels editorial · Updated 2 October 2026
UI UX

Choose dark or light interface styling according to content, readability and the environment in which people use the product. Neither mode is automatically better for a UAE business website. Product imagery, forms and dense operational screens should be tested in the intended setting.

Prioritise readability and content

Review contrast, small text, input boundaries and selected states using realistic content. A theme that works for a large heading may fail in a table or validation message. Keep keyboard focus and error feedback visible across the full interaction, not just the initial screen.

Practical review checklist

  • Review text contrast across default, hover and disabled states.
  • Check product images against each background treatment.
  • Keep validation messages and keyboard focus easy to distinguish.
  • Test on actual mobile screens in different lighting conditions.

Document the design rules

Document the rules for text, surfaces, borders and interaction states in the design system. If both modes are offered, review every important component in each mode. Consistent behaviour and readable information matter more than a preference for a fashionable palette. Explore development services or review selected projects.
